Job Description:
Immunization Specialist

The Immunization Specialist plays a critical role in preventing, controlling, and eradicating vaccine-preventable diseases in underserved populations. This position requires a strong understanding of immunization practices, vaccine management, and public health principles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer vaccinations and provide public health services to clients with a range of health needs.
  • Coordinate and conduct immunization clinics in underserved communities, promoting medical home services and maintaining reminder/recall systems.
  • Update information in the Texas Immunization Registry (ImmTrac2) and promote its use among providers and parents.
  • Assist with vaccine storage, handling, and inventory management, ensuring proper temperature logs and documentation.
  • Investigate suspected vaccine-preventable disease cases, entering data into the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) and performing quality assurance.

Requirements:
  • Knowledge of immunization practices, vaccine management, and public health principles.
  • Ability to interpret immunization schedules, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information to the public and healthcare providers.
  • Proficiency in computer programs, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Working Conditions:
  • Headquartered in Alice, Texas, with up to 40% travel required.
  • Permitted to telework 10% (4 hours per week) following a 6-month probation period.
  • Required to maintain an acceptable driving record and safely operate a state-owned vehicle or personal vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality rules.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems in emergency situations.
  • Proficiency in Spanish language.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as public health, nursing, or health education.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in immunization or public health.
