Position Overview:

Title: Lead Tutor

Status: Part-Time

Compensation: $22/hour

As a Lead Tutor, you will serve as the primary point of contact during program hours for students, parents, and educational staff. Your responsibilities will include monitoring student attendance and managing the sign-in and dismissal processes. You will also maintain communication with parents and school personnel regarding student engagement and progress.

In the event of unusual incidents or emergencies, you will take the lead and ensure that all program challenges are reported to the Program Supervisor without delay. Your role involves working directly with students across various grade levels to help them master academic content in small group settings.

Lead Tutors are expected to assist students with their class assignments, projects, test preparation, or skill development based on individual needs and teacher recommendations. You will act as a positive role model, coach, and mentor, demonstrating a sincere commitment to the academic success and educational development of each student.

It is essential to uphold program expectations and apply the approved behavior management strategies as necessary.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee student check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Assist the Program Supervisor with logistical aspects of the program.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of student attendance.
  • Manage communication via the site phone.
  • Engage with parents and school staff regarding student participation and progress.
  • Lead the response to any unusual incidents and ensure adherence to emergency protocols.
  • Implement approved behavior management techniques for students.
  • Provide individualized and small group academic support.
  • Utilize AVID strategies to aid students in setting goals, developing work habits, and enhancing skills to improve academic performance.
  • Create an inclusive and engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging.
  • Serve as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor, showing genuine interest in the academic growth of students.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 48 college semester units or 60 college quarter units, or a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Proficient in spoken and written Standard English suitable for a public-school environment.
  • Must be at least 22 years of age.
  • At least one year of experience working with groups of 10 or more students in educational or recreational settings.
  • Strong skills in Advanced Math and English (grades 6-12).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to support English learners by being bi-literate (Spanish preferred).

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Pass a Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting).
  • Provide evidence of a clear TB test.
  • Successfully complete Advanced Math and English skills testing (K-8).
