Ophthalmic Technician

An Ophthalmic Technician plays a vital role in an Ophthalmologist's office, providing exceptional patient care and support. This role involves handling a wide range of duties, from initial testing to preparing patients for exams. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a professional attitude, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Provide top-notch customer service to patients, ensuring a positive experience from start to finish.
- Display a professional demeanor, greet patients promptly, and thank them for their visit.
- Practice urgency at all times, respecting patients' time as well as the doctor's schedule.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA guidelines.
- Verify patient information through thorough interviews and record-keeping.
- Accurately record medical history, current medications, and the purpose of each visit.
- Maintain accurate records in the patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Conduct thorough eye exams, observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements.
- Perform a variety of diagnostic tests, including dilation, refraction, pressures, and visual fields.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications.
- Assist with general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager.
- Reliable transportation to accommodate multiple work locations with minimal notice.
- Ability to work weekends as needed.
- Desire to gain industry knowledge and training.
- Initiative to accomplish practice goals and adapt to changing situations.
- Commitment to creating a positive work environment through teamwork and patient focus.
- Willingness to work beyond 40 hours to meet business needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Regularly required to use hands to handle, feel, or manipulate objects.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with one year of related experience and/or training.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred.
