Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Student Engagement and Inclusion Officer to join our team at Stanford University. This is a full-time position based at the Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove, CA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer the HI-SURF summer research program and support other summer programs held at Hopkins.
  • Advise students and postdocs to produce safe, inclusive, and successful events and activities that reflect well on the institution.
  • Connect students and postdocs at Hopkins with campus resources and Stanford cultural centers.
  • Collaborate with students and postdocs to create a vibrant and inclusive community.
  • Support the development and implementation of DEI initiatives, specifically student/postdoc-led activities in collaboration with the DEI office of the Doerr School.
  • Collaborate with Oceans, Biology, and SDSS Dean's Office staff to develop programming, make recommendations to enhance offerings, and mediate complex and sensitive issues.
  • Provide first line response to identify students in crisis and refer to appropriate resources, as needed.
  • Identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible issues while using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment and diplomacy.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
  • Understanding of financial transactions.
  • Ability to learn and understand compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Stanford University systems and policies.
  • Spanish speaking to engage with research and outreach audiences.
  • Experience with student activities, ideally with graduate students in a highly selective program.
  • Experience with developing and managing events.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to students and colleagues.
  • Ability to quickly build and maintain trust, rapport, and respect with diverse populations.
  • Experience with fostering inclusion and belonging.
Working Conditions

Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks. Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class Driver's license and drive day or night between the Hopkins Marine Station Pacific Grove campus and Stanford main campus.
