Position Overview

The University of Washington is seeking a full-time Lead Computing Specialist within the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. This role is integral to our IT team, providing comprehensive computing support to faculty, staff, and students.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Director of Computing Support and fellow specialists to address the diverse computing needs of over 400 individuals within the department. Responsibilities include:

  • Co-administration of core departmental systems, including authentication, storage, and security systems.
  • Development and implementation of new departmental services, serving as a technical lead for various projects.
  • Management of user accounts and security configurations, ensuring robust network-layer security.
  • Monitoring system capacity and performance, maintaining critical infrastructure.
  • Providing direct support to users, addressing routine help desk requests.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, or related fields.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience in computing support.
  • Proficiency in Windows Server and multi-user Linux system administration.
  • Experience with configuration management tools and network security.

Desirable Skills

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Six years of relevant experience, particularly in cloud computing environments.
  • Familiarity with statistical applications and biomedical data security.
