Position Overview

Café Barista

As an integral member of the Stone Way Eateries team, the Barista plays a vital role in ensuring that every guest enjoys an exceptional experience that surpasses their expectations. Our mission is to "Nourish lives by sharing traditions, authentic food, and love." This is achieved by drawing inspiration from diverse cuisines and cultures, sharing insights about our specialty products, demonstrating genuine care for our patrons and colleagues, and finding joy in creating delightful moments.

Our offerings include a variety of traditional and innovative coffee drinks, freshly pressed juices, gourmet teas, and appetizing food selections such as bomboloni, breakfast burritos, and other morning treats. Additionally, we provide a curated selection of specialty food items for guests to take home, enhancing their culinary adventures.

Compensation Package:

  • Base wage of $17.25 per hour
  • Participation in a tip-sharing program based on hours worked
  • Our tip-sharing model reflects our commitment to teamwork, distributing tips collected during each pay period evenly among all eligible employees based on hours worked, fostering a sense of equity.

Employee Benefits:

  • Health insurance coverage available after 6 months for employees averaging 30 hours per week, with over 50% of the HMO Medical employee-only premium covered by the employer. PPO medical, dental, and vision options available at an additional cost.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in crafting and serving espresso-based beverages.
  • A strong desire to enhance the dining and shopping experience for every guest by anticipating and addressing their needs.
  • Effective communication skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving challenges.
  • A commitment to reliability and accountability.
  • A passion for food and beverages, reflected in the quality of offerings.
  • A capacity to thrive in fast-paced environments while remaining engaged during quieter periods.
  • A willingness to learn and grow within the café team.
  • Adherence to all food safety and workplace policies to ensure the well-being of guests and staff.
  • Responsible handling of cash and credit transactions.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Training and Development:

  • Familiarization with the culture, values, and mission of Stone Way Eateries and their impact on guest relations.
  • Mastery of creating exceptional coffee beverages as a foundation for outstanding guest experiences.
  • Knowledge of menu items and the high-quality ingredients used in our offerings.
  • Techniques for pulling the perfect espresso shot in accordance with company standards.
  • Understanding of seasonal menu changes and special offerings throughout the year.
  • Insights into performance evaluation and constructive feedback processes.
  • Daily operational procedures and the Barista's role within the café.
  • Strategies for transforming guest feedback into loyalty-building opportunities.
  • Awareness of community engagement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with employee policies, including dress code and scheduling practices.
  • Proficiency in using point-of-sale systems and timekeeping technology.
  • Introduction to inventory management processes.
  • Overview of the broader Stone Way Eateries group, including various dining and retail options.

Physical Requirements:

  • Baristas are expected to remain on their feet for extended periods, up to 3 hours at a time.
  • The role involves frequent bending, lifting, and carrying.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without strain is necessary.
  • Team lifting may be required for heavier items.
  • Repetitive hand and wrist motions are part of the job.

Work Environment:

Baristas will work during all operational hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays. The role may involve working around equipment such as espresso machines and ovens.
