Individual Support Specialist

Location: Pennington, NJ
Position Overview

The Individual Support Specialist will report directly to the Principal and will be responsible for a variety of essential duties, including but not limited to:
  • Serving as a mandated reporter to ensure the safety and well-being of the student,
  • Overseeing the student's activities, assignments, and materials under the guidance of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce educational objectives and achieve learning outcomes,
  • Administering assessments, homework, and makeup work to effectively communicate progress and implement educational goals,
  • Collaborating with instructional staff and administration to relay progress and implement educational strategies,
  • Accompanying the student to various locations (e.g., restroom, classroom, community) to ensure safe and efficient transitions,
  • Implementing research-based interventions under the supervision of the assigned teacher to support and reinforce learning concepts,
  • Addressing potential conflicts using appropriate techniques to de-escalate confrontations and minimize disruptions,
  • Maintaining instructional materials, manuals, and electronic records to ensure availability and compliance with mandated requirements,
  • Monitoring the student's daily schedule and learning plan to foster a safe and positive educational environment.
Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; College Degree preferred, along with a Valid New Jersey Substitute Certification highly preferred.
  • Experience in a school setting or a related role working with children is essential.
