Detailed Job Description: Special Needs Educational Assistant

Compensation Level: Hourly 12 | H-12

Position Overview: This role involves working closely with one or a few students with disabilities on a consistent basis, providing them with the necessary physical assistance and emotional support to fully benefit from the district's special education initiatives.

Essential Qualifications:
Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent

• A minimum of 48 hours of accredited college coursework, an associate degree from a recognized institution, or successful completion of a district-approved highly qualified assessment.
Experience:

• Prior experience working with individuals with special educational needs is preferred.
Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, etc.:

• CPR certification (renewed annually)

• First Aid certification (renewed every three years)

• Completion of a district-approved behavior management, safety, or de-escalation training within 120 days of employment

• Special Education Paraprofessional Training (3 days can be completed post-hire)

• An additional 6 hours of professional development required annually

• Proficiency in or willingness to learn Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite

• Bilingual in Spanish is advantageous.
Physical Requirements:

• Sufficient physical strength and mobility to implement de-escalation strategies and emergency interventions

• Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted

• Ability to frequently lift more than 50 lbs. with assistance
