About the Position

The Administrative Specialist provides critical support to the Computer Science Office Manager and the department as a whole. This role involves a range of responsibilities, including HR, payroll, clerical, and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will be a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • HR and Payroll: Process and submit necessary paperwork for hiring and payroll purposes, ensuring compliance with university rules and regulations.
  • GTA Hiring Coordinator: Assist with processing and submitting paperwork for Graduate Teaching Assistants, and maintain office hours booking pages.
  • Department Communication: Maintain department Outlook calendars, answer phones, and direct inquiries to appropriate personnel. Order and disseminate parking passes as needed.
  • Maintain Department Equipment Records: Serve as department liaison for the annual fixed asset inventory and maintain thorough records on department-owned equipment.
  • Award Coordinator: Process and submit necessary paperwork for scholarships, awards, and honorariums, ensuring compliance with university rules and regulations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: Required.
  • Office Software Experience: Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and email applications.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Prior experience identifying and addressing problems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Related Field: Preferred.
  • Human Resources Experience: Experience in HR or a related field.
  • Higher Education Experience: Experience working in higher education.
  • University System Familiarity: Familiarity with the University's CT-Banner system.
