If you are ready to embrace new challenges and work alongside a forward-thinking team that is pioneering advancements in the energy market, consider joining Nexamp. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts and develop into a leader yourself.

This role involves dynamic, mission-driven work that seeks to disrupt conventional practices. Become part of a team that is making a significant impact on the world.

Key Responsibilities:
Nexamp is expanding its Electrical Engineering division and is looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer.

Your primary duties will include evaluating photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage system (ESS) project designs, offering technical guidance on interconnections, overseeing construction, and aiding in the commissioning of distributed energy resources (DERs).

This position requires an electrical engineer with substantial experience in electrical infrastructure up to 345kV, including comprehensive knowledge of protective relaying and controls, as well as a solid understanding of relevant national codes such as NEC and NESC.

You will work remotely and report directly to the Director of Electrical Engineering regarding departmental initiatives and process enhancements.

We welcome candidates from across the nation, ideally connected to one of our central locations.

Specific Duties Include:

This role will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering and will collaborate closely with Grid Integration Engineering and Design Engineering teams to develop and commission commercial, industrial, and utility-scale PV+ESS projects.

You will specify and review equipment shop drawings for critical electrical components such as switchgear, transformers, and reclosers.

Conduct advanced electrical modeling using ETAP and AmpCalc to ensure system protection, assess fault-duty ratings, calculate arc-flash hazards, and perform step/touch grounding analysis.

Oversee the scope of work for third-party electrical engineers, which includes conducting studies on protection coordination, power flow, arc flash, grounding analysis, and substation design.

Support Responsibilities:
Analyze and interpret utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and engage in utility negotiations.
Review test procedures, interpret codes, and develop protective settings.
Implement non-wires alternatives and other innovative grid-edge technologies.
Mentor and train junior engineering staff.

Conduct project design reviews, ensuring compliance with codes, best practices, and utility standards through the evaluation of single line diagrams and site layouts.

Address RFIs on ongoing construction projects as necessary.

Technical Support for Commissioning:
Review tests for medium-voltage equipment and factory tests.
Formulate mitigation strategies for non-performance to ensure safe operations.
Analyze RDB files and relay test reports.
Certify mechanical completion for projects that have reached construction completion.

Provide technical assistance to Nexamp's development, EPC, and O&M teams throughout the project lifecycle, including development, permitting, construction, and asset management.

Lead research and implementation of new products, develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and establish best practices.
Assist the Director in identifying process improvements and spearheading initiatives.
Uphold a high standard of professionalism and ethical conduct.

Qualifications:
9+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 4 years in photovoltaic systems.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
Proficiency in AutoCAD software.
Experience with ETAP, SKM, or AmpCalc modeling.
Familiarity with AcSELerator and RDB generation.
Preferred experience with PSSE, Aspen, or PSCAD modeling.
Expertise in utility-scale design and high-voltage substations or effective grounding techniques.

In-depth knowledge of industry-standard design codes such as the National Electric Code, International Building Code, and International Fire Code.

Strong understanding of electrical principles, including medium voltage distribution and protection system coordination.
Comprehensive knowledge of construction methods and practices.
Ability to collaborate within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team, demonstrating leadership capabilities.
Valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain one.
A commitment to Nexamp's mission and a passion for addressing climate challenges.
Proven ability to communicate effectively and showcase initiative in improving processes and services. We value accountability and a proactive mindset. Ability to analyze data, identify root causes of issues, and propose innovative solutions. Expertise in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering trust and loyalty across the industry.

A willingness to gain a thorough understanding of Nexamp's operations and apply that knowledge to support informed business decisions.

If you feel you can contribute to our mission, we encourage you to apply, even if you do not meet every qualification. We welcome applications from individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
At Nexamp, we are dedicated to shaping the future of energy to be clean, simple, and accessible for everyone. We believe that a diverse team brings unique perspectives that enhance our work.
