Position Overview
  • The traveler must fulfill all essential qualifications outlined below to be eligible for consideration.

  • The Cardiac Sonographer independently conducts professional-level evaluations and a variety of non-invasive studies utilizing ultrasound and associated diagnostic technologies as necessary.
  • The outcomes of these examinations are instrumental in guiding patient care decisions.
  • The sonographer employs cognitive sonographic skills to identify, document, and modify procedures as required to assess anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic disease processes.
  • Responsibilities include assisting with transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, and stress testing, including dobutamine and treadmill exercise stress echocardiograms, as well as carotid duplex studies.
  • The sonographer communicates preliminary findings of examination results to the reading and supervising physicians.
  • All examinations are conducted following standard protocols for adult and geriatric patients, and occasionally for adolescents and pediatric patients.
  • The sonographer performs examinations using both stationary and portable ultrasound equipment.
  • Serves as a clinical instructor for the UW School of Ultrasound and participates in the education of fellows, residents, and visiting physicians.
  • May also engage in clinical research and act as a clinical resource for staff within their facility and across the system.
Job Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of cardiac experience is required.
  • Candidate must have experience in an Academic Level 1 - Trauma center or a hospital of similar size.
  • Prior travel experience is highly preferred.
  • Requires two completed references from recent work environments/assignments (supervisor or manager only for work performed in the last two years).
Schedule Information
  • Travelers are the first to float to units working with children up to one year of age and/or based on the traveler's competency skills and experience.
  • The Traveler may have shifts scheduled across multiple units, depending on current staffing needs and/or different locations within the organization.
  • If the primary unit no longer requires the traveler’s services during the assignment, shifts will be reassigned to another unit to fulfill the contract.
