Certification Requirements

Position Overview
  • The traveler must fulfill all minimum qualifications outlined below to be eligible for consideration.
  • Only submit candidates who can adhere to the schedule specified in the posting and have a genuine interest in the unit.
  • The Cardiac Sonographer independently conducts professional-level evaluations and a range of non-invasive examinations utilizing ultrasound and related diagnostic technologies as necessary.
  • Findings from these assessments are crucial in guiding patient care decisions.
  • The sonographer employs advanced cognitive skills to identify, document, and modify procedures as needed to assess anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic disease processes.
  • Responsibilities include assisting with transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, and stress testing; including dobutamine, treadmill exercise stress echocardiograms, and carotid duplex assessments.
  • Preliminary findings from examinations are communicated to the reading and supervising physicians.
  • All assessments are conducted following standard protocols for adult and geriatric patients, with occasional evaluations for adolescents and pediatric patients.
  • The sonographer operates both stationary and portable ultrasound equipment.
  • Serves as a clinical instructor for the UW School of Ultrasound and engages in the training of fellows, residents, and visiting physicians.
  • May also participate in clinical research and act as a clinical resource for staff within their facility and across the system.
Job Qualifications
  • A minimum of one year of cardiac experience is required.
  • Experience in an Academic Level 1 - Trauma center or a hospital of similar size is essential.
  • Prior travel experience is highly preferred.
  • Two completed references from recent work environments/assignments (supervisor or manager only for work performed in the last two years) are necessary.
Schedule Information
  • Travelers are the first to float to units working with children up to one year of age and/or based on the traveler's competency skills and experience.
  • The Traveler may have shifts scheduled across multiple units, depending on current staffing requirements and/or various locations within the organization.
  • If the primary unit no longer requires the Traveler's services during the assignment, shifts will be reassigned to another unit to fulfill the contract.
