Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food Service Assistant to join our team at Hartwell Health & Rehab. As a Food Service Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our dining services, providing exceptional care and support to our patients, and contributing to the overall success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the cook in preparing desserts or snacks for patients, ensuring that all food is prepared to the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Assist the cook in the preparation of meals, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation.
  • Carry trays to patients on the halls, providing a warm and friendly service.
  • Clean tables in the dining area after each meal, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Help with salads, desserts, and other dishes, ensuring that all food is prepared and presented to the highest standards.
  • Assist with the pouring of juice, milk, water, and tea, providing a refreshing and welcoming service.
  • Serve patients beverages, etc., ensuring that all patients receive the highest level of care and attention.
  • Take meals out to patients in the dining area, providing a convenient and efficient service.
  • Prepare between-meal nourishments, such as making sandwiches, etc.
  • Clean the work area at the end of shift and after meals, including sweeping and mopping.
  • Remove garbage from kitchen areas and hose out garbage containers, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Comply with infection control policies in the work area, ensuring the highest standards of safety and hygiene.
  • Scrape dishes, wash dishes, pots, and pans, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Record freezer and walk-in refrigerator temperatures in accordance with established procedures.
  • Check stock as needed, ensuring that all food and supplies are available and in good condition.
  • Put up stock in the appropriate manner, maintaining a clean and organized environment.
  • Store cleaning materials appropriately, ensuring that all equipment and supplies are in good condition.
  • Set up tray line and perform tray line service, providing a convenient and efficient service.
  • Follow diet orders and NPO diet orders, ensuring that all patients receive the highest level of care and attention.
  • Offer menu substitutions and record them in accordance with procedural guidelines.
  • Properly store leftovers and opened food, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Serve nourishments in accordance with procedural guidelines, providing a refreshing and welcoming service.
  • Make coffee and tea as requested, providing a convenient and efficient service.
  • Follow procedures for serving associate meals, ensuring that all employees receive the highest level of care and attention.
  • Clean kitchen equipment, such as carts, tables, counters, ice machine, buckets, blender, mixer, meat slicer, freezer, refrigerator, stove, oven, steamer, garbage disposal, dish machine, coffee/tea maker, and steam table, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Operate the dish machine, garbage disposal, mixer, blender, meat slicer, and steamer, ensuring that all equipment is in good working order.
  • Operate coffee and tea maker, providing a convenient and efficient service.
  • Follow standardized recipes, ensuring that all food is prepared to the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Use serving equipment, such as ladle, spoon, scoops, etc., providing a convenient and efficient service.
  • Check and record water temperature (dishwasher, pot and pan sink, etc.), ensuring that all equipment is in good working order.
  • Check dishwasher with sanitizer strips, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Check chemical levels and replace if needed, ensuring that all equipment is in good working order.
  • Promote the image and reputation of CHSGa by exhibiting servant leadership and providing direct and open lines of communication.
  • Contribute to the work of committees, workgroups, project management, and other collaborative efforts of CHSGa.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of CHSGa.

Requirements

A high school diploma or its equivalent is preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of CHSGa.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format. The ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Application Skills
