Job Overview

The Lead Low-Voltage Systems Technician operates autonomously and occasionally assumes a supervisory capacity. This role demands extensive expertise in the installation, programming, and troubleshooting of various low-voltage systems, including Fire, Access Control, CCTV, Audio/Video, and Intrusion Alarm Systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with clients, team members, supervisors, and other trades.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as blueprints, diagrams, and operational manuals.
  • Proficient in the installation, troubleshooting, programming, and commissioning of Low Voltage Fire, Security, and Access Control Systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse door hardware, including maglocks, strikes, and electrified lever sets.
  • Expertise in wiring techniques and the use of REX and PTE devices, as well as relay logic.
  • Capability to program and troubleshoot the aforementioned systems.
  • Understanding of networking principles and IP addressing for medium to large LANs.
  • Experience in configuring network devices for remote access and control.
  • Advanced proficiency in basic PC applications and management software.
  • Ensure compliance with contract specifications, scope, and relevant codes on assigned projects.
  • Oversee material management to maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Coordinate with local inspectors to ensure code compliance and provide technical guidance on system programming and configuration.
  • Maintain communication with the Project Management team regarding production schedules, scope adjustments, and resource management.
  • Build and sustain relationships with clients to guarantee satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites as required.
  • Capable of explaining technical issues and solutions to clients in layman's terms.
  • Experience in training junior technicians on advanced systems and programming.
  • Ability to interact with clients professionally and courteously.
  • Familiarity with testing equipment and industry-standard tools.
  • Physical capability to climb ladders and work in construction environments as necessary.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional ethics, appearance, and demeanor.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull weights up to 50 lbs, including overhead.

Job Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in installing and servicing low-voltage systems, including fire, voice/data, and security systems.
  • Independently install, program, and commission small commercial systems.
  • Provide training to end users and maintenance personnel.
  • Install various door hardware and related devices.
  • Educate junior technicians on installation, programming, and troubleshooting practices.
  • Present new systems to meet client requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain service tickets and all project-related documentation.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of electronics and associated circuitry.
  • Exemplify and uphold core values such as integrity, accountability, teamwork, innovation, and growth.
