Overview:

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:


Reporting to the Senior Manager of Construction, the Facilities Construction Supervisor is tasked with overseeing construction operations across various projects within the Medical School campus and associated off-site locations.

The role encompasses involvement in the design, planning, specifications, construction timelines, cost estimates, contract documentation, inspections, and project completion for intricate renovations, deferred maintenance, and new construction initiatives. The primary focus of these projects is on medical education, biomedical science, clinical science, and research laboratory facilities.

Responsibilities:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


Independently or in collaboration with the Facilities Project Manager, supervise construction activities conducted by external contractors for all assigned projects, ensuring adherence to construction documents and compliance with institutional policies as well as state and local regulations.

Maintain communication with campus personnel impacted by construction activities. Monitor and manage disruptions caused by work within occupied facilities. Ensure that contractors comply with contract stipulations, institutional policies, and approved logistical plans to minimize interference with building operations.

Coordinate with contractors and Facilities Maintenance staff to schedule utility system shutdowns and outages.

Oversee daily progress of construction projects, inspect and report on work quality, adherence to schedule, and compliance with contracts.

Maintain comprehensive familiarity with project drawings, specifications, timelines, and owner’s requirements.

Ensure project compliance with state and local permitting regulations and facilitate regular site inspections with relevant oversight agencies.

Collaborate with Facilities Maintenance, Environmental Health & Safety, and other campus departments to ensure adherence to institutional policies.

Engage in the development and maintenance of campus construction policies and procedures.


Utilize the Department's capital project management software to upload project budget and schedule data, request consultant and construction contracts, initiate purchase orders, and track billable hours.

Provide construction oversight for work scheduled outside of standard working hours and days.

As essential personnel, respond as necessary during unforeseen impacts to facilities or campus operations.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience/education/training or a Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field; along with 7 years of project or construction management experience.

Extensive knowledge of building design and construction, engineered systems, construction contract administration, Massachusetts building codes, and standard industry practices.


Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate, lead, and interact with all levels of Medical School personnel, external contractors, vendors, and consultants.

Ability to work effectively within a diverse campus culture and respond to their needs. Excellent communication skills that reflect professionalism, courtesy, and diplomacy.

Proficient in computer systems utilized for project management, budget development, schedule creation, and communication.

Valid Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License and 30-Hour OSHA card.

Ability to access all areas of the construction site.

Flexibility to work various hours and locations based on project requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
10 years of experience in construction project management

Experience in an academic medical institution, hospital, or biomedical laboratory environment

Familiarity with DCAMM and public works in Massachusetts.
