Position Description: This role does not represent a current opening but may assist in identifying candidates with the requisite skills and experience for future opportunities within Northrop Grumman.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is a reliable provider of mission-enabling solutions for global security. Our Engineering and Sciences (E&S) organization is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of innovation, redefining engineering capabilities, and advancing various scientific fields. Our team is tasked with delivering the skills and innovative technologies necessary to develop, design, produce, and sustain optimized product lines across the sector, thereby providing a significant advantage to the warfighter.

As an Embedded Software Engineer / Digital Engineer, you will play a crucial role in our enterprise-wide digital transformation efforts. Utilizing Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile methodologies, we are evolving our approach to delivering essential national defense products and capabilities. Success in this role requires a collaborative, transparent, and team-oriented mindset, emphasizing team empowerment, shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop GPS receiver source code across various hardware platforms.
  • Debug and enhance existing code to introduce new features or rectify issues.
  • Ensure adherence to the software engineering process throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Estimate, plan, and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
  • Provide updates on project status and progress against established plans.
  • Create host applications and tools for product testing and interfacing.
  • Support field integrations and demonstration activities.
  • Deliver exceptional customer support through various activities.
  • Foster knowledge sharing through mentorship and training opportunities.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for Principal Level:

  • 5 years of engineering experience with a BS in a STEM discipline; 3 years with a Master's degree.
  • Proficiency in both FPGA coding and embedded software.
  • Experience with VHDL and the software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debugging, and maintenance.
  • Expertise in software architecture design and implementation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in high-level programming languages such as C, C++, or Java, and scripting languages like Python.
  • Experience in security architecture and coding.
  • Familiarity with software management and workflow automation tools such as ClearCase, Git, ClearQuest, or Jira.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Background in navigation/FPNT domain with experience in areas such as NAVWAR Algorithms, Timing and Distributed Clock Algorithms, and GPS receivers.

  • Familiarity with software management and workflow automation tools such as ClearCase, Git, ClearQuest, or Jira.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing real-time safety-critical embedded software systems.
  • Experience in navigation and/or Integrated Avionics System development.
  • Capability to develop UML software designs using tools like Rhapsody or Model-Based Engineering tools such as Simulink or SCADE.
  • Experience with the complete software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, unit testing, integration, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with software testing tools such as LDRA and Vector Cast, as well as code analysis tools like Polyspace.

This position is contingent upon program award.

Salary Range: $118,000 - $177,000

Salary Range 2: $146,300 - $219,500
