Senior Early Childhood Educator at South Shore Stars Inc.

The primary role of the Senior Early Childhood Educator is to guide and nurture young learners within their classroom by establishing an enriching environment and a curriculum that supports their overall growth. Collaborating closely with the Center Director, the Senior Educator designs and implements all center programs while providing oversight and assistance to the classroom team. In the absence of the Center Director, the Senior Educator may assume the center's responsibilities.

Program Responsibilities:

  • Creates a classroom atmosphere that promotes the social and emotional growth of every child.
  • Organizes and sustains a dynamic and supportive classroom environment, ensuring compliance with all licensing, accreditation, and agency standards.
  • Leads ongoing child assessments using tools provided by the agency and supports other classroom staff in utilizing these resources.
  • Designs and executes age-appropriate educational programs based on child assessment outcomes.
  • Develops and implements individualized plans for children based on assessment data, creating effective teaching strategies.
  • Establishes an annual Classroom Action Plan utilizing program evaluations and child assessment data, providing leadership in achieving Action Plan objectives.
  • Identifies developmental concerns in children, consults with the Center Director and Center Social Worker, and formulates individual accommodation plans.
  • Keeps comprehensive documentation of classroom activities and children's progress in accordance with licensing, accreditation, and agency standards.
  • Creates and completes an annual professional development plan.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Center Director.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the team leader and a role model for classroom personnel.
  • Facilitates regular curriculum meetings with the teaching team.
  • Continuously supervises classroom staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations of educators and assistants in partnership with the Center Director, including a professional development plan to aid staff in achieving their goals.
  • Guides and oversees all volunteers and student interns, assisting the Center Director in this process.

Family Engagement and Enrollment Responsibilities:

  • Maintains communication with families through daily interactions, bi-weekly reports, and newsletters, documenting all exchanges.
  • Meets with parents at least every three months to discuss their child's development.
  • Provides parents with initial adjustment reports and developmental updates every three months.
  • Encourages parental involvement in planning for their child and participating in classroom activities.
  • Designs and implements initiatives that connect home life with classroom experiences.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with 36 ECE credits - Required
  • DEEC Lead Teacher Preschool Certification - Required
  • EEC/Infant Toddler Certification - Preferred
  • Two years of experience in early childhood education - Preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Dedication to supporting diverse children and families, aligned with the agency's mission.
  • Proven classroom management abilities.
  • Strong capability to supervise classroom team members.
  • Warm and nurturing demeanor.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility in work schedule.

*This position is full-time throughout the year, ensuring 40 hours per week with an 8 1⁄2-hour workday, including an unpaid 30-minute break. Shifts may vary based on program needs. This role requires physical activity.

This is an on-site position. All employees of South Shore Stars should be capable of lifting at least 40 lbs and working in an active environment.
