Position Overview

BronxWorks is dedicated to enhancing the economic and social well-being of individuals and families. We provide essential services across various demographics, from young children to seniors, focusing on building a stronger community through support and education.

We are currently seeking 15 dedicated Youth Workers for our PS 42 Afterschool & Summer Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Program Director or Coordinator in establishing program objectives and activities tailored for youth.
  • Foster a nurturing and encouraging atmosphere for participants.
  • Organize and lead diverse recreational, educational, and team-building activities.
  • Manage classroom dynamics and deliver instructional content.
  • Serve as a communication link between parents and the program.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Complete First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Response training as required.
  • Engage in monthly supervision meetings with the program coordinator or director.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with youth in educational, recreational, or social settings.
  • Must obtain clearance through the New York State Central Registry and the Office of Children and Family Services.
  • Preferred experience or knowledge in youth development best practices.
  • Familiarity with whole language philosophy is a plus.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard business technology is necessary.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of up to 10 pounds.
  • Capability to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged durations.
  • Ability to navigate stairs, if necessary for fieldwork.
  • Capacity to bend and retrieve items or documents.
  • Willingness to travel within the boroughs of New York City using public transportation.
  • Ability to travel at least 1 mile in various weather conditions, including inclement weather, for fieldwork.
  • TB Test required within the first 120 days of employment for specific outreach roles.
