Job Title: Youth Education and Tutoring Intern

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate intern to join our team as a Youth Education and Tutoring Intern. In this role, you will work closely with our Youth Education Specialists, School Success Specialists, and other interns to support the educational needs of newly arrived youth.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating after-school tutoring and academic support programming to refugee youth, focusing on areas such as English language skills, math, and other subjects as needed.
  • Track and document all activities related to youth education and tutoring in the appropriate internal database system.
  • Facilitate one Professional Development session for staff and volunteers.
Curriculum Intern (3 positions):
  • Organize and assist with creation of the curriculum and daily lesson plans for the tutoring sessions and the associated tutor curriculum guide.
  • Assist with creation of knowledge assessments for students based on the curriculum.
  • Research and organize additional resources provided to tutors.
  • Oversee tutors using the curriculum to observe the potential improvements.
Tutor Oversight Intern (1 position):
  • Reach out to organizations and educational facilities to recruit volunteer tutors.
  • Assist with creation and facilitation of volunteer training.
  • Ensure volunteers complete all training materials by the given deadlines.
  • Schedule and communicate with volunteers.
  • Assist in facilitating the Tutor Monthly Check-ins with the Youth Education Specialist.
Student and Family Engagement Intern (1 position):
  • Assist the Youth Education Specialist with facilitation of Monitoring and Evaluation materials.
  • Contact families and caregivers of students to remind them of tutoring or community events via an IRC Whatsapp number.
  • Partner with Programming Intern to ensure consistent communication to families about Community Events.
  • Potentially assist the Operations Team with the Youth Education Newsletter.
Programming Intern (2 positions):
  • Communicate with outside organizations to partner with for tutor Professional Development sessions and Saturday Community Events.
  • Schedule and prepare Professional Development sessions and Community Events.
  • Partner with SF Engagement Intern to ensure consistent communication to families about Community Events.
  • Partner with other Youth Education Interns to organize and facilitate ESOL classes for parents and caregivers during Saturday in-person programming.
  • Documentation of all Community Events and Professional Development.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 15 hours per week for 16 weeks.
  • Primary availability during IRC business hours (Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00am to 6:00pm).
  • Preference will be given to applicants able to make a multi-term commitment.
  • Start date: September 2nd, 2024
  • End date: December 20th, 2024
