Agronomy Operations Leader

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Agronomy Operations Leader is tasked with the establishment and daily management of all operational functions and objectives within the division. This role includes serving as a team leader for all division staff and directly supervising all personnel within the division. In addition to team leadership, this position is expected to uphold sales responsibilities by delivering exceptional customer service to ensure client satisfaction. The focus will be on specific large, critical existing accounts to foster company-wide sales growth while also seeking new accounts to cultivate long-term business partnerships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Management:

  • Establish and monitor operational goals for the division.
  • Oversee division expenses and profitability on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinate labor activities with the agronomy team.
  • Manage inventory levels of all products and order necessary inputs.
  • Maintain proficiency in blending and mapping software.
  • Act as the primary company liaison for all crop protection manufacturers and distributors.
  • Coordinate and implement the procurement of essential crop protection products.
  • Adjust division work hours based on seasonal demands.

Administrative Duties:

  • Complete and submit weekly purchase records to Accounts Payable.
  • Ensure accurate billing information for all agronomy products.
  • Conduct all interviews and hiring processes with prior approval from senior management.
  • Administer and approve all personnel requests for time off.

Sales Responsibilities:

  • Keep senior management informed of any situations that may adversely affect a customer's financial stability.
  • Identify key existing accounts to enhance Door County Cooperative's market share and develop sustainable business partnerships.
  • Recognize and target a select group of prospective accounts to adapt to changing producer demographics.
  • Monitor customer accounts for overdue payments and follow directives on future sales activities.
  • Collaborate with peer division managers to increase customer business share and acquire new accounts.
  • Maintain and grow sales of crop inputs and related products to established customers.
  • Identify and prioritize potential new accounts and secure their business through appropriate opportunities.
  • Respond to customer needs that competitors may overlook.
  • For top accounts, identify preferred communication styles to prepare for sales calls.
  • Utilize provided software for field mapping, crop planning, and record-keeping.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills to plan and prioritize daily activities.
  • Maintain records of prospecting activities and targeting plans.
  • Provide clear directions and communications to division personnel to ensure efficient customer service.
  • Be accessible to customers and colleagues to ensure outstanding service.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular employee meetings to update staff on weekly division activities.
  • Implement supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies, including employee training and addressing complaints.
  • Utilize the company philosophy of teaching, rewarding, and correcting in daily activities and performance evaluations.
  • Conduct annual reviews for direct reports, detailing accomplishments and development plans.
  • Facilitate mid-year reviews to provide feedback and solicit input on job expectations.
  • Oversee direct reports, including Plant Operators, Professional Applicators, and Administrative Assistants.
  • Supervise Agronomy Sales Specialists assigned to the division.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree and three years of experience in a related field is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Ability to travel between offices, customers, and vendors is necessary.
  • Strong decision-making and motivational skills are essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with numerical proficiency, are required.
  • Proficient computer skills to operate relevant business software and communicate electronically.
  • Knowledge of products and services is essential.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide Operators License and Class A CDL are preferred.
  • Must reside within commuting distance from the division.
