Position Overview: The Director of Engineering is tasked with establishing Contract Requirements pertinent to all acquired Ship Design and Build Projects, as well as Conversions and Repair projects. This role is vital in supporting the workforce at our expansive facility. The successful candidate will define departmental resources essential for meeting commitments, coordinate personnel efforts, and undertake various high-level responsibilities, including bid and proposal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and adhere to FBS Safety Policy.
  • Enforce organizational policies and procedures.
  • Determine resource needs to support business objectives.
  • Develop and enhance departmental capabilities to align with Engineering Efforts.
  • Design and implement training programs for the engineering team.
  • Establish standard operating procedures for the department.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship to direct reports.
  • Oversee hiring and termination processes.
  • Facilitate meetings with Engineering staff and other departments to support business goals.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and engineering subcontractors.
  • Report on departmental performance to senior management.
  • Collaborate with all departments to ensure engineering deliverables meet production needs.
  • Manage departmental overhead budgets.
  • Participate in the development of bids and proposals.
  • Coordinate and integrate technical activities in engineering projects.
  • Review and approve project design modifications.
  • Present proposals and findings to clients.
  • Consult with clients to finalize project specifications.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Quality and Environmental, Health & Safety Policies.

Supervisory Duties: This role directly supervises a team of 5 to 40 employees and oversees subcontract engineering performance. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, evaluating performance, and resolving issues. The candidate should embody leadership qualities that align with the mission and values of Fincantieri Marine Group.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with 10-20 years of relevant experience, or a 4-Year Degree with 15-25 years of experience, or a 2-Year Degree with 20+ years of experience.
  • Proven ability to manage a large workforce effectively.
  • 15 years of supervisory experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Additional management or supervisory certifications.
  • Demonstrated technological expertise through work experience or publications.
  • Experience with Six Sigma or LEAN methodologies.
