Aquatics Supervisor Job Description

This position supports the mission and work of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization. The Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for the aquatic environment while on duty, including supervision of Swim Instructors/Lifeguards, and maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and lead a team of Swim Instructors/Lifeguards to ensure a safe and enjoyable aquatic environment.
  • Develop and implement aquatic programs, including swim lessons and water safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA guidelines and association policies, including emergency and safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff to provide a positive experience.
  • Maintain a clean and safe aquatic environment, including pool maintenance and equipment upkeep.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification and experience working with children and swim lessons.
  • Knowledge of aquatic programs, including swim lessons and water safety initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends.
Training and Certifications:
  • Must complete online New Employee Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, Mandated Reporter, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, and Employee Safety trainings prior to start of position.
  • Must hold and maintain American Red Cross, YMCA, or equivalent lifeguard and/or YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification.
  • Must hold and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to type, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a recreational and educational environment. This role routinely uses standard sports and recreation equipment such as gym equipment, sports equipment, and office equipment such as phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
