Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Code Enforcement Officer I/II to join our team at the City of Modesto California. As a key member of our community standards team, you will be responsible for investigating and enforcing applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations related to zoning, health and safety, blight, and graffiti.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations and inspections to identify and address code violations, ensuring compliance with local regulations and ordinances.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including property owners, businesses, and community members, to educate and resolve code-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records and reports of code enforcement activities, including violations, fines, and resolutions.
  • Participate in community outreach and education initiatives to promote code compliance and awareness.
  • Work closely with other city departments, such as planning, building, and public works, to ensure a comprehensive approach to code enforcement.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., urban planning, public administration, environmental science) preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in code enforcement, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and ordinances.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to operate a city vehicle.
