Job Overview

Position Title: Medical Imaging Specialist

Reports To: Practice Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary: The Medical Imaging Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of imaging procedures, ensuring the highest quality of care for patients while adhering to safety protocols.

Typical Physical Requirements:

  • Extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking, with occasional bending and stretching.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Assistance in the transfer of patients weighing over 200 lbs, including the operation of wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Normal hearing and vision capabilities to accurately prepare and communicate reports.
  • Ability to manage high-pressure situations while supporting patients and their families.

Typical Working Environment:

  • Work conducted in a clinical setting with direct interaction with patients, their families, and healthcare staff, following Universal Precautions.
  • Moderate noise levels.
  • Potential exposure to fumes and odors.
  • Risk of radiation exposure.
  • Contact with blood, bodily fluids, and tissues.
  • Overtime may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and guide patients to dressing and examination areas.
  • Prepare and maintain examination and procedure rooms.
  • Conduct high-quality imaging procedures under the supervision of a radiologist.
  • Manage the supply inventory for procedure rooms.
  • Ensure efficient turnover of examination rooms.
  • Maintain film badges and monitor radiation safety protocols according to ALARA principles.
  • Complete all necessary administrative tasks related to patient examinations in the electronic medical record system.
  • Ensure regular maintenance of imaging equipment and keep accurate documentation.
  • Adhere to state regulations regarding imaging logs.
  • Promote patient satisfaction and compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Protect patient, physician, and staff confidentiality in accordance with compliance programs.
  • Maintain required certifications (ARRT (R), Arizona State MRTBE).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Understand and follow emergency procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely and effectively.
  • Participate in relevant training and development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited radiology technologist program.
  • ARRT (RT) and MRTBE Licensure.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a hospital or outpatient setting.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required prior to or within 30 days of employment.
