Role Overview

The Line Maintenance Manager is an essential member of Viasat's Commercial Airline and Business Aviation Support division, responsible for delivering and maintaining our premier "ViaSat In-Flight Connectivity (IFC)" services. This role is pivotal in the launch of new customer services and the upkeep of existing systems for our onboard connectivity solutions. Adherence to Viasat's procedures and compliance with FAA and local regulations is paramount.

Our line maintenance operation is unique, featuring a compact, dedicated team across multiple stations, supported by broader Quality and Field Engineering teams. We are in search of a versatile individual who can think creatively to ensure compliance while managing a team that operates on varying schedules. The ideal candidate will be adept at identifying efficiencies and controlling costs as we expand our customer fleet. A hands-on approach is essential, as this role may involve direct support during aircraft dispatches.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee certified technicians and supervisors conducting both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on IFC systems across multiple line maintenance stations.
  • Supervise Field Engineers working on commercial and business aircraft, ensuring compliance with qualifications under the Part 145 roster.
  • Lead the team in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and rectifying discrepancies related to aircraft, adhering to approved technical data.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation and record-keeping of all maintenance and engineering activities on customer aircraft, in line with airline partner and FAA regulations.
  • Monitor performance metrics at each station to guarantee daily work is executed as planned.
  • Assume multiple roles typical of a line maintenance organization, such as quality assurance, inventory management, and tooling, to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Manage facilities, vehicles, documentation, and tooling for current and future line maintenance stations.
  • Oversee timecards and maintenance schedules to maximize productivity cost-effectively.
  • Act as the accountable manager for our FAA Part 145 certificate, maintaining a collaborative relationship with our FAA Inspector/FSDO.
  • Assist in evaluating system reliability and recommend actions based on findings.
  • Travel to customer maintenance sites on short notice to support operational needs.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries and escalations.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to OSHA and FAA standards.
  • Develop and present operational KPIs and status reports to stakeholders.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the Director of Aviation Support.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Electrical Engineering, IT, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of technical field engineering, line maintenance, or customer support experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Familiarity with Part 121 and Part 145 aviation maintenance manuals and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and related documentation.
  • Proven track record in establishing and managing line maintenance stations.
  • Experience as an FAA Accountable Manager, capable of fulfilling this role for our Part 145 Line Maintenance certificate.
  • Possession of a FAA Airframe & Powerplant Certificate.
  • Ability to lead staff on a flexible schedule in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time.
  • Valid Passport for international travel.
  • Ability to obtain AOA airport badges.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Linux/Unix systems.
  • Background in networking environments, particularly TCP/IP.
  • Experience interfacing with Business Aviation and/or Airline clients.
  • Familiarity with RF Satellite or Wireless Communication systems.
  • Knowledge of AS9100d specifications for documentation and compliance.
  • Located near Viasat offices to enable hybrid working arrangements, though highly qualified remote candidates may be considered.
Compensation

Salary range: $127,000 - $229,200 annually. Compensation is determined by various factors, including the scope of the position and the candidate's experience. Additional incentives may be included as part of the overall compensation package, along with a comprehensive benefits offering focused on employee health and wellness.
