Position Overview

The role of the Controls Engineer is critical in ensuring the seamless operation of manufacturing processes through effective control systems. This position involves the development and enhancement of both hardware and software specifications for equipment, ensuring that all systems function optimally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement hardware and software specifications for equipment vendors, taking charge of the overall controls package integration for new machinery and significant projects utilizing existing systems.
  • Provide training to maintenance personnel on equipment functionality and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Oversee the engineering of control hardware and software upgrades aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of machinery.
  • Modify control systems of process equipment to maximize production efficiency while reducing downtime, focusing on cost-effective and efficient plant operations.
  • Develop program modifications and enhancements for equipment controls in line with process improvements.
  • Maintain and uphold specification standards for both new and existing process equipment control systems.
  • Conduct comprehensive training across the plant for both new and existing process equipment control systems.
  • Diagnose and repair issues in new and existing process equipment control systems, creating tools and documentation to facilitate rapid troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers as necessary to fulfill primary job functions.
  • Update control documents, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), AutoCAD drawings, and operational manuals related to the equipment.
  • Deliver technical support across all production lines.
  • Engage in a collaborative team environment to address and resolve engineering challenges.
Qualifications
  • A two-year degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical certification.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in controls engineering or manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in Robot Programming, PLC Programming, and RSLogix 5000.
  • Experience with the installation, startup, and debugging of new process equipment.
  • Familiarity with electrical components such as motors, power supplies, generators, and transformers.
  • Knowledge of process interface devices, including proximity and limit switches, transducer relays, solenoids, and temperature/pressure indicators.
  • Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems as they relate to circuit and system logic.
  • Experience with computer hardware interfaces and PLC systems.
