Position Overview:
The role of the Benefit Resolution Specialist is integral to the Department of Social Services, which includes the New York City Human Resources Administration and the Department of Homeless Services. The selected candidate will engage with Cash Assistance recipients to address and resolve case actions that impact their benefits, including Cash Assistance, SNAP, and Medicaid.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate discussions with recipients to assess and evaluate the validity of Agency actions.
- Examine databases to verify the correctness of decisions made or identify any discrepancies.
- Inform clients about their rights to contest unfavorable decisions.
- Compile and prepare digital evidence packages for administrative hearings.
- Oversee and manage individual System queues to ensure timely processing.
- Provide immediate support at various locations within the designated Region as needed.
Work Location: Hunts Point, Bronx
Hours/Schedule: 9am – 5 pm with flexibility
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school diploma accompanied by three years of experience in social or human services or similar fields.
2. Bachelor’s degree with at least eighteen months of experience as a Benefits Opportunity Specialist.
3. College credits may be considered in lieu of work experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong communication and writing abilities.
- Familiarity with Agency operations and New York State social service regulations.
- Excellent analytical and time management capabilities.
- Attention to detail.
- Knowledge of systems such as FHEMS, WMS, POS, NYCWAY, SEAMS.
This position welcomes qualified individuals with disabilities who are eligible for the 55-a Program. Public Service Loan Forgiveness may be applicable to prospective employees. New York City residency is not a requirement for this position.
