Position Overview

JOB TITLE: High School ELA Teacher

REPORTS TO: High School Dean

COMPENSATION: Up to $50 per hour

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession or eligibility for a valid Delaware License and 9-12 Certification in required areas as per 14 Del. C. § 1531
  • Successful completion of Praxis II assessments
  • Additional qualifications as determined necessary by the Board of Education and Administration
  • Experience with AP or Dual Enrollment preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging instruction in the English Language Arts curriculum to high school students.
  • Design a comprehensive program of study tailored to the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Establish a classroom atmosphere that fosters learning and aligns with the developmental stages and interests of students.
  • Prepare thoroughly for assigned classes, providing written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourage students to uphold and maintain classroom conduct standards.
  • Regularly evaluate student progress and provide necessary reports, including communication with parents regarding student achievements.
  • Offer individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to meet each student's needs, ensuring appropriate pacing and clarity in subject matter.
  • Implement necessary precautions to safeguard students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as mandated by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with all staff and parents.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Guide and mentor a small group advisory, addressing the academic, emotional, and behavioral needs of students while assisting with guidance and college preparation.

Standard Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check for the selected candidate
  • Tuberculin Test
  • Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck

Work Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

COVID-19 Considerations:

As a condition of employment, all employees must certify full COVID-19 vaccination status; weekly testing may be required, or an exemption can be requested based on qualified ADA or sincerely held religious beliefs.

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year in Teaching (Required)
