Position Title: Secondary English Language Arts Instructor

Reports To: Dean of High School

Compensation: Up to $50 per hour

Employment Type: Full-Time

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of or eligibility for a valid Delaware Teaching License and 9-12 Certification in relevant subjects as per 14 Del. C. § 1531
  • Successful completion of Praxis II assessments
  • Additional qualifications or alternatives as required by the Board of Education and Administration
  • Experience with Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment preferred
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging instruction in the English Language Arts curriculum to high school students.
  • Design a comprehensive program of study tailored to the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Establish a classroom atmosphere that fosters learning and aligns with the developmental stages and interests of students.
  • Prepare thoroughly for assigned classes and provide documented evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourage students to uphold and maintain classroom behavior standards.
  • Regularly assess student progress and provide necessary reports, including communication with parents regarding student achievements.
  • Offer individualized and small group instruction as needed to adapt the curriculum to meet each student's needs, determining the appropriate pace for instruction.
  • Implement necessary precautions to safeguard students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as mandated by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with all staff and parents.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
  • Guide and mentor a small group advisory, addressing the academic, emotional, and behavioral needs of students, while assisting with guidance and college preparation based on lessons provided by the school counselor.
Standard Requirements:
  • Favorable Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check for the selected candidate
  • Tuberculin Test
  • Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck
Work Schedule:
  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
COVID-19 Considerations:

As a condition of employment, all employees must certify full COVID-19 vaccination status; weekly testing for COVID-19 may be required, or an exemption may be requested based on qualified ADA or sincerely held religious beliefs.
