POSITION TITLE: Secondary English Language Arts Instructor

REPORTS TO: Dean of Secondary Education

COMPENSATION: Up to $50 per hour

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession or eligibility for a valid Delaware Teaching License and 9-12 Certification in the relevant fields as per 14 Del. C. § 1531.
  • Successful completion of Praxis II assessments.
  • Additional qualifications or alternatives as required by the Board of Education and Administration.
  • Experience with Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging instruction in the English Language Arts curriculum to high school learners.
  • Design a curriculum that caters to the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Establish a classroom atmosphere that promotes learning and aligns with the developmental stages and interests of students.
  • Prepare thoroughly for assigned classes and provide documentation of preparation upon request from supervisors.
  • Encourage students to uphold and maintain standards of conduct within the classroom.
  • Regularly evaluate student performance and provide necessary reports, including communication with parents regarding student progress.
  • Offer tailored instruction in both individual and small group settings to meet the specific needs of each student. Adjust instructional pace according to student abilities and clarify content for students and their families.
  • Implement safety measures to protect students, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records as mandated by law, district policy, and administrative guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with all staff members and engage with parents.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Guide and mentor a small advisory group, addressing the academic, emotional, and behavioral needs of students while assisting with college readiness and guidance in accordance with the curriculum provided by the school counselor.
Standard Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check for the selected candidate.
  • Tuberculin Test.
  • Mandatory Direct Deposit of salary.
Work Schedule:
  • 8-hour shifts.
  • Monday to Friday.

As a condition of employment, all employees must confirm full COVID-19 vaccination status; weekly testing for COVID-19 may be required, or an exemption request may be submitted based on qualified ADA or sincerely held religious beliefs.

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required).
Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience (Required).
Licensure/Certification:
  • Teaching Certification (Required).
Work Location: In-person.
