Lead Mainframe Systems Engineer

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Mainframe Systems Engineer to manage and optimize our corporate mainframe infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
As a Mainframe Systems Engineer, your role will encompass:
1. Overseeing software installations, providing product support, and administering zOS within a sysplex environment.
2. Maintaining and enhancing mainframe infrastructure and associated software.
3. Monitoring and optimizing mainframe performance metrics.
4. Configuring and supporting storage subsystems and infrastructure.
5. Collaborating with hardware and software vendors for ongoing support and project initiatives.
6. Developing comprehensive documentation, executing thorough testing, and adhering to established change control protocols.
7. Supporting mission-critical application infrastructure and products.
8. Engaging with end-users, application developers, colleagues, management, and other stakeholders.
9. Demonstrating initiative and meticulous attention to detail in daily operations.
10. Participating in a rotational on-call support schedule.
11. Writing test scripts and conducting verification testing of product deliverables.
12. Applying a high level of attention to detail in mainframe application development and build tools.
13. Exhibiting exceptional customer service, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
14. Providing clear and effective verbal and written communication.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of experience with mainframe technologies including Cobol, JCL, and JES2.
- At least 4 years of experience with mainframe hardware, software, and third-party installation support.
- Proven experience in mainframe capacity planning and performance tuning.
- Experience in writing test scripts and performing testing verifications.
- Familiarity with mainframe application development IDE build and run tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Unix System Services and zOS operating system.
- Experience with Assembler and REXX.
- Understanding of infrastructure software solutions, change management, scheduling, and performance monitoring tools.
- Experience in maintaining and operating within a Parallel Sysplex environment.
- Familiarity with Coupling Facility environments.
- Experience with ITIL-based ticketing systems for change, incident, and problem management.
Education
A Bachelor's degree in technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Work Environment
- Remote office environment; candidates should be based or willing to relocate within a reasonable distance.
Shift Requirements
- No shift work required.
- On-call responsibilities may be necessary.
- Weekend work is not required.
