The Mainframe Infrastructure Metrics Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the visibility, efficiency, and performance of our mainframe systems.

Your expertise in monitoring, performance enhancement, and data evaluation will be essential in guaranteeing that our mainframe infrastructure functions optimally, identifying both capacity and performance anomalies.

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring & Observability:

Establish and uphold monitoring solutions to assess mainframe performance metrics.

Collaborate in the design and modification of dashboards and alerts to oversee system health and performance.

Ensure extensive visibility into mainframe operations and swiftly pinpoint issues.

Performance Evaluation and Optimization:

Track mainframe performance metrics utilizing various tools such as RMF, SmartIS, iZPCA, MICs, and other proprietary tools.

Examine performance data to uncover trends, bottlenecks, and potential challenges.

Formulate and execute performance enhancement strategies to boost system efficiency.

Data Evaluation:

Gather and assess system performance data to produce reports and dashboards.

Identify critical performance indicators (KPIs) and develop metrics to monitor system performance.

Summarize and present data insights, recommendations, and methodologies to senior leadership, departmental leaders, and enterprise stakeholders (both technical and non-technical).

Collaboration and Communication:

Engage closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, development, and infrastructure groups.

Provide technical support and guidance to team members and stakeholders.

Participate in on-call rotations and deliver prompt responses to performance and observability challenges.

Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree in information systems, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.

Over 10 years of experience with mainframe systems, demonstrating proficiency in performance management for large, multi-processor, multi-LPAR, Parallel Sysplex environments utilizing z/OS.

Proven track record in mainframe performance monitoring, observability, capacity management, and data analysis.

Proficiency in Cobol, Job Control Language (JCL), DB2, and REXX programming.

Experience with Python and/or Java on the mainframe is advantageous.

Strong understanding of Batch Processing and Job Scheduling.

Familiarity with mainframe monitoring tools and performance tuning methodologies.

Experience working with large, highly transactional datasets to derive insights and create organizational value.

Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (Charts, Pivot tables, Vlookups, PowerPivot) and PowerPoint.

Qualifications:

Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities, including the capacity to prioritize effectively.


Proficient in data analysis and the creation of dashboards and various visualizations that will provide actionable insights for operations, engineering, and management decision-making.

Familiarity with MS Office suite for management reporting using both PowerPoint and Excel analytical functions.

Ability to synthesize information from diverse systems to integrate data elements for meaningful insights.

Analyze and resolve business challenges at their core, maintaining a broader perspective.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational capabilities.

Experience with IBM SCRT Reporting (a plus).

Familiarity with iZPCA Product (a significant advantage).

Demonstrate effective time management skills, independent thinking, and decision-making capabilities.

Exhibit a high sense of urgency and the ability to prioritize competing demands in a dynamic environment.
