Open Systems Inc. is seeking a creative and driven Mainframe Application Developer to enhance our IT Accounting Applications support team on a contractual basis. This position involves engaging in various significant projects within a vibrant and fast-paced setting. We are looking for a candidate who is flexible and capable of adapting quickly to changing project requirements. The successful applicant will be a proficient problem solver with extensive knowledge in COBOL and CICS, demonstrating a strong dedication to delivering high-quality, client-focused applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the IT department to maintain and improve mainframe applications.
  • Independently analyze issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure applications align with their needs.
  • Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), with Agile experience considered an advantage.
  • Maintain a strong emphasis on quality and customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Skills:

  • Over 10 years of experience in application development and support, with a minimum of 7 years focused on COBOL, DB2, JCL, and CICS in a Mainframe context.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of independently diagnosing and resolving challenges.
  • A proactive mindset, strong work ethic, excellent testing capabilities, and a commitment to teamwork and customer service.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively share knowledge and technical expertise.

Additional Skills (Preferred but Not Required):

  • Familiarity with IDMS/IDMS-DC, ISPW, TSO, PL/I, and/or ADSO.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies.

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
