Responsibilities


The Maternity Care Specialist Nurse is accountable for delivering safe and effective patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

This role involves providing direct patient care within the defined scope of practice. The nurse will also oversee and instruct patient and family education, as well as coordinate the activities of other nursing staff while upholding care standards in the maternity unit.

The nurse must be adept at responding swiftly and accurately to changes in patient conditions and treatment responses, ensuring a secure environment for both patients and visitors.

Utilizing the appropriate chain of command is essential to guarantee patient safety and the suitability of care for mothers and newborns during the antepartum and postpartum phases.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  • Current and valid state RN License.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
  • BLS certification required within 30 days and must be maintained.
  • ACLS certification required within 90 days and must be maintained.
  • NRP certification required within 90 days and must be maintained.
  • Basic Fetal Monitoring certification required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
  • AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certificate required within 12 months.
  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring certificate preferred.
  • STABLE certification preferred.
