Responsibilities


The Registered Nurse is accountable for delivering safe and effective patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves providing direct patient care within the defined scope of practice.


The Registered Nurse also plays a vital role in guiding patient and family education while overseeing the activities of other nursing staff, ensuring adherence to professional nursing standards in the Emergency Department.


Effective communication with physicians regarding changes in patient conditions, diagnostic results, and symptomatology is essential. The Registered Nurse must respond promptly and accurately to any changes in patient status and is knowledgeable about relevant regulations and reporting procedures.


Qualifications


Education, Experience, and Training Requirements:
  • Valid state RN License.
  • Current BLS certification upon hire and ongoing maintenance.
  • ACLS certification required within 30 days of hire and must be maintained.
  • PALS certification and/or ENPC required within 30 days of hire and must be maintained.
  • Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation certification within 30 days of hire.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital setting; emergency room experience is preferred.
  • Certification as an Emergency Nurse (CEN) is preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.


Facility Specific Requirements:
For those in the Paramedic Base Station ED, MICN certification is required within 12 months of hire. Additionally, for EDAP certified facilities, completion of emergency pediatric courses 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire and Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire is required.
