Tree Climbing Specialist

The Tree Climbing Specialist is tasked with the essential duties of climbing, trimming, and safely removing trees. A minimum of one year of prior professional climbing experience is necessary to qualify for this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to and promote safety protocols and regulations
- Execute climbing, pruning, and tree removal tasks as directed by the Foreperson
- Assist in loading and unloading vehicles with logs, brush, and debris; operate brush chippers as needed
- Utilize hand saws, pole saws, pruners, and gas-powered chainsaws from ground level
- Inspect and maintain all assigned tools and equipment to ensure proper functionality
- Protect co-workers and the public from potential hazards by enforcing safe work practices and maintaining a clean work environment
- Participate in storm response activities as required
SUPERVISORY ROLE
This position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities.
EXPERIENCE PREFERENCES
Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military fields is preferred; previous climbing experience is advantageous.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
A high school diploma or equivalent education is preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated knowledge of knots, ropes, and rigging devices used in tree care operations
- Ability to climb and descend trees safely using ropes and safety harnesses
- Competence in administering emergency rescue techniques, including tree rescue and first aid
- Familiarity with electrical hazards and proper procedures when working near electrical lines
- Capability to work at significant heights in varying weather conditions
- Physical strength, agility, good balance, and depth perception are essential
- Ability to quickly evacuate from potentially dangerous situations
- Must maintain first-aid and CPR certifications
- Willingness to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Flexibility to travel for storm restoration efforts when necessary
