Position Overview:
The Regional WIC (Women, Infants & Children) Program, a vital initiative of the Connecticut Institute for Communities, Inc. (CIFC), is seeking a dedicated full-time Staff Nutritionist. This role involves supporting the Program Nutritionist in various nutrition-related components, ensuring adherence to all federal and state guidelines for nutrition education and WIC certifications, and delivering nutritional counseling and education to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive WIC nutrition assessments as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA), identifying and documenting nutritional risks for participants.
  • Tailor and assign appropriate WIC food packages to meet the needs of participants.
  • Ensure proper certification processes for eligible applicants.
  • Assist in implementing nutrition and breastfeeding promotion initiatives as part of the local agency plan.
  • Contribute to achieving state and local health objectives.
  • Provide and document nutrition education, counseling, and breastfeeding support tailored to WIC participants.
  • Develop and follow up on care plans for high-risk participants.
  • Refer WIC participants to relevant resources as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in Foods and Nutrition, Community Nutrition, Nutrition Education, or Nutritional Sciences from an accredited institution. Preference will be given to candidates with Registered Dietitian (R.D.) credentials or eligibility with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Commission on Dietetic Registration. Alternatively, a Master's degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Home Economics with a focus on Foods and Nutrition is acceptable.

Individuals holding a Master's degree in nutrition without a Bachelor's in the same field must have completed equivalent graduate-level coursework to compensate for any undergraduate gaps.

Compensation: Competitive salary based on qualifications, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare coverage and a retirement program. As a federally qualified healthcare center (FQHC), this position is also eligible for the Loan Repayment Program through HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration).
