Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Addictions Counselor to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As an Inpatient Psychiatry Addictions Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing individual and group counseling/therapy, recovery support, and clinical consultation to patients struggling with addiction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct AOD assessments and diagnostic evaluations to identify patient needs
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to address co-occurring mental health concerns
  • Lead psychoeducational groups focused on addiction recovery and support
  • Collaborate with psychiatric teams to ensure comprehensive care
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and treatment planning
  • Develop and coordinate an integrated addictions recovery and support program for patients
  • Document patient care according to professional standards and departmental guidelines
  • Contribute to quality improvement, program development, and professional growth activities
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Three-five years of experience working with clients in recovery from substance use disorders and/or substance use counseling
  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) certification or Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC)
Working Conditions

This role requires frequent bending, stooping, and walking. The successful candidate will be proficient in communication, auditory, and visual skills, with attention to detail and ability to write legibly. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
