The School District of Lee County is seeking a Guidance Counselor for various educational institutions across Lee County. This position is designed to meet the developmental requirements of all students through a thorough counseling program that emphasizes academic, career, and social-emotional growth, facilitated by leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and systemic transformation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in School Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate in guidance and counseling PK-12.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing departmental functions and personnel is preferred.
  • Industry certification is preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a data-informed, comprehensive counseling program aimed at addressing obstacles to student learning and bridging achievement and opportunity gaps. The program should focus on three core areas of student development: academic, college/career, and social-emotional.
  • Deliver direct services to students, which may include school counseling core curriculum, individual counseling, student planning, and both large and small group counseling, along with preventative and responsive services.
  • Provide indirect services for students, including referrals for additional support and collaboration with parents, educators, administrators, and other key stakeholders to foster learning environments that ensure educational equity, access, and success for every student.
  • Implement programs that encourage the development of essential mindsets and behavior standards as outlined by the American School Counselor Association, focusing on learning skills, social skills, self-management skills, and college/career readiness.
  • Enhance understanding of school counseling standards and engage faculty, students, parents, and community members in recognizing the link between these standards and the vision for academic success and social-emotional growth aligned with college/career readiness.
  • Utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration skills to effect systemic change that enhances academic, social-emotional, and post-graduate success for all students.
  • Act as a change agent to ensure a safe and supportive school environment that fosters success through opportunities for academic growth, social-emotional learning, and college/career readiness.
  • Encourage partnerships with parents and the community to support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of all students.
  • Integrate cultural competence along with ethical and professional standards in the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of the comprehensive counseling program.
  • Provide counseling support for students during periods of transition, separation, heightened stress, and significant change.
  • Support a continuum of mental health services, including prevention and intervention strategies, and identify best practices for collaboration with community mental health providers to enhance student success.
  • Articulate a clear and comprehensive vision and mission statement for the school counseling program that aligns with the school, district, and state visions/missions.
  • Utilize school data to identify and assist individual students who are underperforming and provide necessary resources and opportunities for academic success.
  • Effectively employ technology to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate the comprehensive counseling program.
  • Make legal and ethical decisions based on the standards and principles of the school counseling profession and educational systems, including district and building policies.
  • Carry out Medicaid administrative claims reimbursable activities as directed in accordance with relevant guidelines.
