Job Overview

Position Summary

The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts is a public charter institution dedicated to fostering academic and artistic excellence for students in grades 6-12. Role Responsibilities

As a pivotal member of the School Leadership Team, the Counselor will report directly to the Director of Operations. This role is essential in maintaining high standards of organizational effectiveness and customer service, enabling educators and staff to concentrate on enhancing student achievement. Key responsibilities include:

Leadership in School Operations

  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal - Culture to establish and enforce practices that prioritize community well-being, trust-building, and emotional intelligence training.

Comprehensive Counseling Services

  • Design, execute, and assess a proactive guidance and counseling program.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Deliver classroom instruction aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards.
  • Facilitate a guidance curriculum that promotes self-regulation, social-emotional learning, and healthy living.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to secure resources for student support.
  • Implement an effective referral system for accessing specialized programs and services.

Student Leadership Initiatives

  • Partner with the Assistant Principal - Culture to create and manage student-led initiatives such as peer support and mediation groups.
  • Oversee the selection and training of student leaders.
  • Guide students in goal-setting and problem-solving processes.

Instructional Collaboration

  • Engage in academic committee meetings to ensure proper development of individual education plans.

Effective Communication

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information.
  • Facilitate open communication with all stakeholders, including parents and community members.
  • Consult with educators and administrators to enhance student support strategies.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Adhere to federal and state regulations and policies related to guidance and counseling.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the counseling program based on assessment findings.

Additional Duties

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts and possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Guidance & Counseling preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience; experience in a counseling environment preferred.
  • Valid Texas counseling certification.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and a commitment to operational excellence.
  • Desire to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced educational setting.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

Compensation and Benefits

The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts offers a competitive salary range of $65,000-$70,000 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health coverage and professional development opportunities.
