The Registered Clinical Nutrition Specialist is responsible for managing the nutritional care of patients, including inpatients, residents, and outpatients. This role involves conducting comprehensive nutritional evaluations and overseeing the implementation of physician-directed therapeutic diets and supplements. The specialist delivers personalized and group nutrition strategies based on assessments of the patient, their family, and significant others, while respecting individual cultural, ethnic, and personal preferences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits the expertise and competencies required to provide age-appropriate care for patients.
  • Conducts nutrition assessments and follow-ups for patients identified with heightened nutritional risks, in alignment with established policies and best practices. Records evaluations, nutritional objectives, care plans, and any changes in patient status in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Implements the nutrition care process by performing assessments, establishing nutrition diagnoses, executing nutrition interventions, and ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation of nutritional outcomes.
  • Designs and executes tailored nutritional intervention plans that align with the medical goals and objectives of the patient.
  • Advises on the necessity for transitional feeding methods (shifting from enteral to oral intake and vice versa) and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to determine the suitable administration of nutrition therapies and food.
  • Educates patients and their families regarding nutritional requirements as necessary.
  • Acts as a resource for medical personnel and allied health staff concerning nutritional status and needs.
  • Complies with organizational policies and procedures, including confidentiality and patient rights regulations as outlined in the facility's manual.
  • Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient-centered care.
  • Meets annual professional development requirements as outlined in the Registered Dietitian Clinical Ladder Portfolio Checklist.
  • Collaborates with Culinary Staff to ensure the accuracy of modified diets and address patient inquiries.
  • Engages in the Rogers Operating Systems (ROS) program and adheres to Standard Workflow.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Participates in weekend/on-call and holiday rotation as required.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Dietetics or a bachelor's degree if licensed prior to 2024.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical environment.
  • Completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited supervised practice program (Dietetic internship).
  • Successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians.
  • Maintains registration through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Obtains and maintains state certification (up to 90 days post-hire allowed for certification).
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission and other regulatory compliance standards.
  • Completion of formal training in crisis prevention and intervention within sixty (60) days of hire, with annual recertification required.
  • Dietitians in community-based Residential Facilities (CBRF) or Residential Care Centers (RCC) must complete first aid, fire safety, and standard precautions training within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required within thirty (30) days of hire, with annual recertification necessary.
