Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Elementary Special Education Teacher/ Autism Specialist to join our team at Springfield Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with autism and other special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs and abilities of students with autism.
  2. Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student learning.
  3. Provide direct instruction, support, and accommodations to students with autism in a variety of settings, including classrooms, small groups, and one-on-one sessions.
  4. Assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet the changing needs of students with autism.
  5. Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
  6. Stay up-to-date with best practices in special education, autism support, and instructional strategies to ensure the highest quality of education for students with autism.
Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  2. Appropriate content/program area educator license (Teacher of Students with Severe or Moderate Disabilities) and grade level (PreK-8) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  3. Experience working with students with autism and other special needs.
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
