Position Summary

This position involves executing a range of moderately complex maintenance tasks, repairs, and enhancements to county-owned buildings and equipment. The role encompasses various skill sets, including carpentry, HVAC, painting, plastering, masonry, plumbing, electrical work, and machinery servicing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct preventive maintenance routines on equipment and building systems.
  • Perform regular inspections of assigned facilities to identify maintenance needs and execute necessary repairs.
  • Estimate time and materials for tasks, manage inventory, and request necessary supplies.
  • Carry out repairs in electrical, plumbing, masonry, and carpentry.
  • Replace damaged glass and install or replace lighting fixtures.
  • Assist in remodeling projects and construct storage solutions as needed.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting and execute painting tasks.
  • Disassemble and reassemble furniture and equipment as required.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or G.E.D. with three (3) years of relevant building maintenance experience, including preventive maintenance and repairs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Texas Driver's License. Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

Preferred:

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certification, to be obtained within one year of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Maintenance practices and procedures for plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry.
  • Safety regulations and best practices.
  • Tools and equipment used in maintenance tasks.
  • Applicable laws and regulations at various governmental levels.
Skills in:
  • Executing repairs in various trades including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing maintenance issues.
  • Reading and interpreting technical documents and blueprints.
  • Effective communication and teamwork.
Ability to:
  • Follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Apply maintenance techniques safely and efficiently.
  • Work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and the public.

Work Environment

Physical demands include lifting up to 100 pounds and carrying up to 75 pounds. The role requires visual acuity, manual dexterity, and the ability to work in various environmental conditions. Employees may be required to work at heights and handle hazardous materials.
