Job Summary

The Specialist - Behavior Empowerment is a key member of the Spring Independent School District team, responsible for providing leadership and assistance to district and campus staff in the development and implementation of positive behavior supports for students with significant emotional and/or behavioral concerns. This role involves providing one-to-one support and interventions directly to identified students, as well as collaborating with schools to develop programs that promote responsible decision-making through social emotional education and/or drug awareness programs.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the development and implementation of behavior assessments, behavior modification plans, behavior goals and objectives
Assist in the development and implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports in the educational setting
Assist students with behavioral problems (i.e. aggression, substance abuse, depression) in developing social, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Attend ARD/IEP meetings for students with, or in need of, a behavior modification plan for special education students being referred
Collaborate with students in creating and reaching goals and objectives as identified on their Individualized Service Plan and/or Service Plan Progress Reports and/or Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)
Conduct assessments to determine student needs and strengths as they relate to specific issues such as academic performance, family conflict, peer pressure, substance abuse or mental health concerns
Conduct formal and informal observations of students with behavioral challenges
Collaborate and consult with teachers regarding field tested, evidence based interventions to support students with behavioral needs
Model for teachers by providing direct social skills instruction to students to improve behavior individually or in small groups
Participate in weekly student caseload conferences, goal setting and progress monitoring
Provide families with assistance and behavioral modifications for continuity between home and school
Provide assistance as students transition between a less and more restrictive placement
Provide family support at the empowerment campus as needed
Provide individual or group counseling sessions to students as needed
Provide staff development in the classroom; crisis and behavioral management strategies for staff and students
Provide staff development and training including resources to help teachers with behavioral management strategies.
Refer students and families to community resources
Serve as the liaison to provide communication and support to students in the special education and general education populations

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in teaching, counseling, social work, mental health, psychology, or a related field from an accredited college or university
Three years of successful professional experience in schools or programs working directly with students with behavioral concerns and/or special needs
Three years successful, professional experience in schools or programs working with parents of students with behavioral concerns and/or special needs
Valid Texas teacher certification for the assigned grade level
Preferred: Administrative and/or counseling certification, administrative experience at a campus and/or district level, experience working with homeless, foster and/or LGBTQ youth, licensed social worker, master's degree in administration, teaching, counseling, social work, mental health, psychology, or a related field from an accredited college or university, supervisory experience, special education certification, three years classroom teaching experience

Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical.
