EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION ASSISTANT

(Specialist in Early Learning Programs)

SALARY: $3,294/month (with scheduled increases)

POSITION STATUS: This role is structured for 10.5 months, with scheduled work from August to June. Summer months are unpaid.

WORK LOCATION: Various sites within the community

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Early Childhood Education Assistant collaborates closely with Lead Teachers in our preschool settings, executing tailored educational programs while ensuring the well-being and safety of all children. This position emphasizes building meaningful relationships with children, respecting their unique backgrounds and circumstances. This role is classified and reports directly to the Education Site Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

100%: Supporting and Instructing in a Preschool Environment

  • Facilitate learning experiences for children in a classroom environment.
  • Implement individualized educational plans and prepare instructional materials as guided by the Lead Teacher.
  • Document observations and conduct assessments following established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records in both paper and electronic formats.
  • Oversee snack and meal service in the classroom.
  • Prepare the classroom environment, including arranging furniture and materials.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all children and the learning environment.
  • Supervise children at all times, ensuring no child is left unattended.
  • Lead classroom activities during the Lead Teacher's absence and manage daily classroom operations.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to address classroom needs and responsibilities.
  • Physical demands include the ability to move quickly, lift up to 50 pounds, and maintain a clean and organized classroom.
  • Achieve and maintain Inter Rater Reliability using Teaching Strategies Gold within the first year of employment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to fulfill all essential functions of the role.
  • Capacity to work independently while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and relevant regulations.
  • Proficient in using computers for communication and documentation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Flexibility to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing program needs.
  • Consistent attendance and adherence to an established work schedule.
  • Possession of a current Food Worker Card and Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage stress.
  • Capable of performing repetitive tasks with high accuracy.
  • Physical ability to engage with children and maintain an active presence in the classroom.
  • Transport self to various training sessions and meetings as required.
  • Compliance with health and safety requirements, including vaccinations and background checks.

This role is classified and reports to the Education Site Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Educational requirements (one of the following is necessary):
  • Washington State Initial Early Childhood Education Certificate, or
  • Twelve credits in early childhood education leading to an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, or
  • A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or
  • Enrollment in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of hire.

2. A minimum of one year of experience working in a preschool setting.

WORK SCHEDULE:

40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

COMPENSATION:

Salary begins at $3,294/month, with future increases planned. A comprehensive benefits package is included.
