Job Summary:

Edmonds College Head Start/ECEAP/Early Head Start is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Early Childhood Education Specialist to join our team. As an Assistant Teacher, you will work under the direction of the Lead Teachers in our Head Start preschool classrooms, implementing individualized curriculum and ensuring the health and safety of all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist and teach in a preschool classroom setting, implementing individual child educational programming and preparing curriculum materials as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • Record anecdotal observations, conduct screenings and assessments according to standardized instructions.
  • Maintain paper and electronic documentation and records.
  • Execute classroom snack and meal service.
  • Set up and maintain a preschool classroom environment, including moving of child-sized furniture, tables, chairs, shelves, and regular-sized shelving units.
  • Maintain the health and safety of all children and their environment.
  • Ensure that no child is ever left alone or unsupervised.
  • Take the lead in managing the classroom during the Lead Teacher's daily office hours and whenever the Lead Teacher is absent.
  • Meet weekly with the teaching team to discuss classroom needs and responsibilities.
  • Perform regular sanitation and cleaning of the classroom, including the use of a broom, carpet sweeper, mop, vacuum, and cleaning products.
  • Obtain and maintain Inter Rater Reliability using Teaching Strategies Gold within one year of employment.

Requirements:

  • Washington State Initial Early Childhood Education Certificate, or
  • Twelve credits in early childhood education, leading to an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or
  • A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or
  • Enrollment in a CDA credential program, to be completed within two years of hire.
  • One year of work experience in a preschool classroom.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an early learning environment, and onsite/in-person.
  • The ability to sit, bend, stoop, walk, and generally move around the classroom and over uneven surfaces to work with children is required.
  • The position requires some lifting and moving up to 50 pounds in an emergency situation.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential, including the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English.

Benefits:

  • Salary range: $36,000 - $43,000 per year.
  • Progressive increases to $44,000 per year, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options, and more.
  • Vacation and leave package includes 10 sick days per year, 10 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, 3 personal leave days, and 11.67 vacation days per year (incremental increases to 20 vacation days per year).
