Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Principal Airworthiness Engineer to join our team at Northrop Grumman. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring the airworthiness of complex systems, including manned and unmanned aircraft.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement airworthiness plans, basis of certifications, and means of compliance for complex total systems.
  • Review and coordinate with other airworthiness engineers and internal engineering disciplines to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform functional and process analyses, requirements allocation, and definition studies to translate customer requirements into criteria and requirements.
  • Interface with Office of Airworthiness, Program IPTs, Program Office, and Customer community as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a related STEM discipline and 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Work experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems with minimum 6 years professional experience, with at least 3 years in an assignment working Airworthiness (Military or Civil).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret clearance, can start employment with Interim TS and active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • An active DoD Top Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • NAVAIR Airworthiness and Cybersafe Office (formerly 4.0P) Airworthiness Experience.
  • Experience with Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) and / or Vehicle Control Functions (VCF).
  • Military, especially US Navy, aircraft development or modification experience.
  • Ability to initiate Airworthiness Certification process improvement initiatives.
  • Design and Systems Engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Flight Technology, Avionics, Mission Payload Integration, Flight Test.
  • Experience with MIL-HDBK-516C, especially Section 6 Flight Technology.
  • Familiarity with NAVAIR Instruction G.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1797 and MIL-STD-882E.
  • Familiarity with System Safety Risk Assessments (SSRA), program risks and hazard analyses.
  • Familiarity with Agile methods of program execution.
  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering and associated tools, such as Cameo Systems Modeler.
