About the Role

The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority is seeking a highly skilled Safety and Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for reducing risk and creating a safer environment for our personnel, the general public, and persons with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Operational Risk Surveys: Independently conduct operational risk surveys, not less than monthly, to identify safety and ADA-related issues that create risk for the airport, the general public, and persons with disabilities.
  • Inspect Terminal Facilities: Conduct periodic walk-through inspections of the terminal to identify safety and ADA-related issues that create risk for the airport, the general public, and persons with disabilities.
  • Evaluate Operational Deficiencies: Evaluate operational deficiencies, prepare finding reports, and recommend remedies to reduce risk.
  • Track and Resolve Issues: Track items identified in an audit/inspection to ensure all issues were addressed and resolved.
  • Coordinate Safety Programs: Coordinate required safety programs such as Hazard Communication, Personal Protective Equipment, and Control of Hazardous Energy, to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
  • Develop and Deliver Trainings: Develop, update, and deliver annual OSHA and other safety trainings to airport personnel.
  • Conduct Chemical Inventories: Work with Maintenance and DPS teams to conduct annual chemical inventories (over 1,000 chemicals), conduct chemical spot checks not less than monthly, and update the online chemical inventory database (adding and archiving SDS Sheets).
  • Conduct Air and Noise Sampling: Conduct air and noise sampling with specialized equipment such as calibrated gas meters and noise dosimeters to set baselines, evaluate exposures, and make recommendations for implementation to reduce noise exposure.
  • Coordinate Emergency Planning: Coordinate required emergency planning for severe weather and annual fire drills.
  • Oversee Ergonomic Assessments: Oversee ergonomic assessments of workstations and make recommendations to reduce injury risk.
  • Enforce Safe Work Practices: Enforce safe work practices and correct unsafe employee behaviors through training and mentoring.
  • Oversee Ladder Inventory and Inspection Program: Oversee ladder annual inventory and inspection program and conduct ladder inspections of all inventoried ladders not less than quarterly.
  • Oversee Roof Anchor Inspection: Oversee annual roof anchor inspection.
  • Develop PPE Hazard Assessments and Job Safety Analyses: Develop PPE Hazard Assessments and Job Safety Analyses for various teams and annually review each PPE Hazard Assessment and Job Safety Analysis.
  • Oversee Fire Extinguisher Service and Inspections: Oversee annual fire extinguisher service and conduct monthly fire extinguisher inspections for compliance standards.
  • Prepare and Distribute Toolbox Talk Training Material: Prepare and distribute monthly toolbox talk training material and maintain training records.
  • Conduct Ramp Walks and Participate in Cleanup Events: Conduct monthly ramp walks and participate in cleanup events with airlines, service providers, and airport Maintenance Personnel as scheduled to include documenting findings, recommending remedies, and updating metrics.
  • Conduct FAA ADA Self-Assessments and Quarterly In-House ADA Assessments: Conduct annual FAA ADA Self-Assessments and quarterly in-house ADA Assessments.
  • Assist with Planning ADA Week: Assist with planning annual ADA Week.
  • Coordinate Hazard Recognition Competition: Coordinate monthly Hazard Recognition Competition. Includes logging submissions and tracking corrective actions.
  • Assist with Coordinating Safety Committee Meetings and Planning Annual Safety Day/Expo Event: Assist with coordinating Safety Committee meetings and planning annual Safety Day/Expo event.
  • Assist with Safety Investigations and Analyze Accident Data: Assist with safety investigations, analyze accident data resulting from the investigations, and implement preventive programs.
  • Participate on the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) Committee: Participate on the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) Committee and recommend remedies to resolve complaints.
  • Escort Agencies Touring the Airport: Periodically escort agencies touring the airport for risk, hazard, safety, and access audits. Follow all safety regulations.
  • Maintain Regular and On-Time Attendance: Maintain regular and on-time attendance.
  • Support the Airport's Culture and Values: Support the airport's commitment to its culture and values, including Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence (RISE).
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management or Related Field: Bachelor's degree in safety management or related field required.
  • 2-4 Years of Related Experience: 2-4 years of related experience.
  • Valid CLASS D Driver License: Valid CLASS D Driver License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4 to 7 Years of Related Experience: 4 to 7 years of related experience.
  • Certified Safety Professional: Certified Safety Professional.
