Position Overview:
The Pediatric Intensive Care Registered Nurse (RN) is a dedicated healthcare professional responsible for the comprehensive assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of care for critically ill pediatric patients. This role leverages advanced nursing practices, technology, therapeutic interventions, and collaborative care coordination with a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:
Assessment:
Conduct thorough evaluations of patients' physical, social, and psychological conditions, including cognitive and developmental skills as necessary.
Engage with interdisciplinary team members, including patients, families, and other healthcare professionals, to gather and assess relevant information.

Planning:
Utilize assessment data and critical thinking to collaboratively create tailored care plans.
Encourage involvement from patients, families, and healthcare teams in the development of care strategies, including necessary education and support.

Prepare patients for ongoing care needs post-discharge, including education, referrals, and follow-up.


Implementation:
Lead the interdisciplinary care team through effective delegation, coordination, and collaboration.
Deliver or assign care that aligns with established care plans, clinical guidelines, and professional standards.
Exhibit strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage patient care efficiently, utilizing time and resources effectively.

Evaluation:
Assess patient responses to interventions by reviewing goal achievement, clinical outcomes, and satisfaction levels of patients and families.
Adjust care plans as necessary based on ongoing evaluations and patient needs.

Professional Standards:
Advocate for the nursing profession and contribute to the professional development of peers.

Incorporate legal and ethical standards into daily practice, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate documentation, and understanding the legal implications of care delivery.


Minimum Qualifications:
Current RN License in the state of practice.

  • BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers.

  • Current PALS Certification.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- and
  • RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain their BSN within five years of employment.
  • RNs promoted into this role are required to have or obtain their BSN within three years of promotion.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for visual acuity to read information, assess patient needs, and operate medical equipment.

  • Frequent communication with patients and healthcare providers requiring clear verbal interaction and the ability to hear and understand spoken information, especially in emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity to handle delicate medical equipment and frequent computer use for documentation and patient care.

  • Ability to lift and utilize a full range of motion to assist patients and handle equipment of varying weights.

  • Expected to assist with patient transport and navigate busy environments safely.

  • May need to maintain a stationary position for extended periods.
