Position Overview: Family Support and Engagement Specialist

Introduction: Are you dedicated to fostering the growth and development of families and young children? As a Family Support and Engagement Specialist, you will be instrumental in delivering partnership services to families involved in Early Head Start. Your role will include ensuring adherence to performance standards, facilitating enrollment processes, and empowering parents with essential parenting skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver family and community partnership services for families in Early Head Start
  • Ensure compliance with established performance standards
  • Facilitate the recruitment and enrollment of children
  • Implement culturally responsive problem-solving strategies for families
  • Contribute to the creation of educational materials and programs for parents
  • Guide parents in developing effective parenting techniques
  • Collaborate with program staff to enhance child development initiatives
  • Availability for evening and weekend work as needed
  • Position subject to funding availability

Reporting Structure:

Supervisor: Parent, Family, & Community Engagement Specialist

Direct Reports: None

Collaborative Relationships: Program Director, Education Specialist, & Health Specialist

Essential Functions: Family Support and Engagement

  • Assist parents in identifying their strengths, needs, and aspirations
  • Engage effectively with a diverse community
  • Support enrollment efforts for Early Head Start children and families
  • Facilitate smooth transitions for children
  • Organize and lead parent meetings and educational sessions
  • Provide case management support to families
  • Conduct home visits and follow up on attendance
  • Support parents in advocating for their children's needs
  • Monitor and document children's developmental milestones
  • Maintain open communication with families and the community
  • Address inquiries and concerns promptly
  • Work collaboratively with program staff to ensure a safe environment

Essential Functions: Operational

  • Gather and compile necessary report data
  • Input information into data management systems
  • Ensure adherence to program policies
  • Maintain accurate children's records
  • Assist with program documentation tasks
  • Uphold confidentiality standards
  • Participate in training and meetings
  • Foster professional relationships with colleagues
  • Effectively manage conflicts
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance
  • Understanding of child development and parent engagement
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Strong communication abilities
  • Successful completion of background checks and medical assessments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Experience in working with children and families
  • Certification in Pediatric First Aid/CPR
  • Proficiency in Spanish or basic understanding

Employment Conditions:

  • Compliance with educational and professional development requirements is mandatory

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely lift children weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Engage in activities that involve standing, walking, and sitting
  • Assist with transportation duties as needed
  • Participate in conversations and distinguish auditory cues

Work Environment:

  • Office settings, indoor classrooms, playgrounds, and family homes

Equipment Utilized:

  • Office and cleaning tools, educational resources, and outdoor equipment
